Long-term Aerosol Climate Data Records from Modis and Seawifs over Land and Ocean

چکیده
The impact of natural and anthropogenic sources of a ir pollution has gained increasing attention from scientific communities in recent years. Indeed , tropospheric aerosols not only perturb rad iative energy balance by interacting with solar and terrestrial rad iation, but also by changing cloud properties and lifetime. Furthermore, these anthropogenic and natural air pollutants, once generated over the source regions, can be transported out of the boundary layer into the free troposphere and can travel thousands of kilometers across the oceans resulting in important biogeochemical impacts on the ecosystem. Due to the relatively short lifetime (a few hours to about a week), the d istributions of these airborne particles vary extensively in both space and time. Consequently, satellite obse rvations are needed over both source and sink regions for continuous temporal and spatial sampling of dust properties.

The MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard both NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites is making near global daily observations of the earth in a wide spectral range (0.41 to 15 μm). These measurements are used to derive spectral aerosol optical thickness and aerosol size parameters over both land and ocean. The aerosol products available over land include aerosol optical thickn...

متن کاملRetrieval of aerosol optical depth over land surfaces from AVHRR data
The Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) provides a global, long-term, consistent time series of radiance data in several wavebands which are used for the retrieval of surface spectral reflectance, albedo and surface temperature. Long-term time series of such data products are necessary for studies addressing climate change, sea ice distribution and movement, and ice sheet coastal c...
